Description: Length: 56-66 cm. Plumage: back grey; head and below white; outer primaries black with white mirrors on outer two; leading and trailing edges of upper wing white; inner wing linings white. Immature with head and neck streaked grey-brown; rest of plumage like adult but grey replaced by rusty brown. Bare parts: iris white to yellow; eyering vermilion; bill yellow with red patch near tip; feet and legs bright yellow, pink or bluish. Habitat: estuaries and marine shores. Uncommon palearctic visitor. <389><391><393> [details] Dimensions: Length: 25" (64 cm); Wingspan: 58" (147 cm) [details] Distribution: North America; range extends throughout the Canadian Atlantic and south to the Gulf of Mexico [details] Remark: Forms a superspecies with L. fuscus & L. dominicanus [details] Reproduction: Breeds in northern Europe and Asia as well as in North America. In America, it Breeds from Labrador through the low Arctic to Alaska and south to Virginia, Lake Champlain, Minnesota, and interior British Columbia.
