Polymastia mamillaris of most authors prior to the revision of Morrow & Boury-Esnault, 2000 must be referred to Polymastia penicillus. Polymastia mamillaris sensu Müller, 1806 is a separate valid species from Swedish Coast (North-esat Atlantic) and Barents Sea. The citations of this species of Polymastia from other parts of the world are highly doubtful.
