Homonymy Technically, this combination is a junior primary homonym of Spongia fruticosa Esper, 1794. Junior primary homonyms should be replaced by a new name. However, Esper's combination is unused in the sense of art. 23.9.1.1 of the ICZN (not used after 1899) and the junior name of Montagu is in prevailing use as Desmacidon fruticosum in the sense of art. 23.9.1.2 (used in at least 25 works and by at least 10 authors in the last 50 years). Thus, Esper's name is to be suppressed as a nomen oblitum and usage of Desmacidon fruticosum is to be maintained as nomen protectum.  [details]
