Petaloclymene pacifica (Polychaeta: Maldanidae) is described from waters off southern California. Most characters of the new genus and species are typical of the subfamily Euclymeninae. The anal plaque is unique in being asymmetrical, similar to that of Petaloproctus quatrefages, 1865 of the subfamily Nicomachinae. Presence of a cephalic plaque and axial proboscis indicate that Petaloclymene is a member of Euclymeninae as opposed to Nicomachinae.
