The cheilostome bryozoan family Cribrilinidae Hincks, 1879 sensu lato includes more than 100 genera, fossil and recent (Bock 2023). One of such genera is the monotypic Cinclidia Denisenko, 2018 with Cinclidia aculeata Denisenko, 2018 from the upper bathyal off the Faroe Islands (Denisenko 2018). The author became recently aware that the bryozoan name Cinclidia was preoccupied by a genus of insects and a genus of birds. The butterfly genus Cinclidia Hübner, 1819 (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) is considered invalid and junior synonym of Melitaea Fabricius, 1807 (Beccaloni et al. 2023), while the status of the bird genus Cinclidia Gould, 1837 (Aves, awaiting allocation) is currently uncertain (i.e. unassessed) (Gould 1837; IRMNG 2023). According to the Principle of Priority (Article 23) of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (1999) Cinclidia Denisenko, 2018 constitutes a junior homonym of the genera Cinclidia Hübner, 1819 and Cinclidia Gould, 1837. Therefore, a replacement name is proposed herein.
