The scientific production of Dr. Enrique Rioja (1895-1963) included works on Hydrobiology and Invertebrates Zoology. He duplicated in Mexico Ms mean production with seven publications per annum, and during 1940 he published 18. He was the main author of the Invertebrates volume in the Zoologia Hispanoamericana. He recorded over 300 species from mexican shores in his 26 estudios Anelidologicos series. He established 43 new taxa, three genera (Olgaharmania, Mexieulepis and the invalid Mercierellopsis), 39 species (34 are valid), and four subspecies (Euclymene papillata isocirra is questionable) in 17 families, mainly Serpulidae (10), Syllidae (7), Nereidae, Spionidae and Spirorbidae (4 each). By listing his taxa together with standarized diagnosis, type localities and habitat data, the finding of neotypes in hopefully facilitated. A commentary on the taxonomical status of some conflictive taxa is also included. [types believed lost, fide Salazar Vallejo]
