The nereidid polychaete Perinereis suluana (Horst, 1924), which has been widely but sporadically reported throughout the Indo-West Pacific, was recorded for the first time from Japanese waters based on five specimens collected from Oura Bay, on the east coast of Okinawa Island. This record represents the northern-most record for the species. This species is distinguishable from its congeners most notably by (i) the absence of paragnaths in Areas VII–VIII of proboscis and (ii) the presence of a longitudinal brown streak on the tentacular and anal cirri. This report describes the morphology of P. suluana based on the material obtained, as well as its habitat information and geographical distribution worldwide.
