While investigating the systematics and ecology of benthic ostracods, 40 species belonging to 27 genera and 14 families were identified from the marginal marine environments namely Bimili backwaters (17 degree 54'N, 83 degree 28'E), Balacheruvu tidal stream (17 degree 39'N, 83 degree 15'E) and Vasishta Godavari estuary (16 degree 18'N, 81 degree 42'E). Among the members of the family Leptocytheridae, Leptocythere andhra ensis, Tanella estuarii and T. kingmai are new to science, Callistocythere sp. aff. C. crispata is found to be the first record from Indian waters. T. vasishta and T. indica were described earlier from the lower reaches of the Vasishta Godavari estuary and the marginal water bodies on the east coast of India.(DBO)
