The marine Ostracoda off northern South America are distinct from those farther north, in the Greater and Lesser Antilles, and from those farther south, in the Northern Brazilian Subprovince. The term Southern Caribbean Subprovince is proposed to differentiate the northern South American fauna. Three new Recent species of ostracod (Pterygocythereis fithiani n. sp., Cytheropteron bremani n. sp. and Bythoceratina coimbrai n. sp.) are described from the Southern Caribbean Subprovince.
