[Summary] An account is given of the animal community of a large sandstone block trawled from 80 fathoms off Bank's Peninsula, 44° 15' S., 173° 31' E. The rock was extensively bored and the fauna was divided into two groups, surface dwelling forms and those living in the rock. Dominant species were Potamilla alba, Physcolosoma sp., Eunice australis, Eunice tentaculata and Cardita aoteana. A total of 103 species is listed. The feeding habits of the community are analysed, the members being almost entirely suspension feeder or carnivores. The nature of the borings in the rock and the relative importance of the burrowing species, Potamilla alba, Physcolosoma p. and Hiatella australis is discussed. Dead molluscan shells in the holes and entangled in the growth on the rock probably represent a northern extension of the Chalamys-deliculata-Fustriton described by Powell (1950), off the Olago coast
