AbstractA new genus and species of spatangoid echinoid, Tripatagus pittsi n. gen., n. sp., is described from the Marianna Limestone, Lower Oligocene (Rupelian) of Mississippi. The family is uncertain: plating of the plastron suggests the family Maretiidae; ethmolytic apical system, presence of both peripetalous and subanal fascioles, and depressed petals suggest the family Brissidae or Macropneustidae. It differs from nearly all other genera of these families in the character of 3 gonopores in an ethmolytic apical system, lacking a gonopore in genital plate 2.
