Type material Type locality is “in the Nemoro Sea, 15–20 miles east of the South Kuril Cape (Kunashir Island).” A thorough taxonomic description, including external and internal measurements, of four specimens collected from southeastern Russia (Kunashir Island, Amur Bay, Vityaz Bay) between 1951 and 1954 is given. Numerous morphological differences were highlighted by Sleptsov to justify designating these specimens as belonging to a different species compared to L. obliquidens.
