Editor's comment Harmothoe macrolepidota is a combination in use in ecological reports in New Zealand for a common shallow-water Harmothoe. Other names used earlier were Harmothoe spinosa Kinberg, 1856, and Harmothoe praeclara (Haswell, 1883). Pettibone (1993) assigned Augener's New Zealand usage of Kinberg's H. spinosa to Australian H. praeclara, but the local H. macrolepidota (Schmarda, 1861), an older name, would have priority. The valid name to use is uncertain. [details]
