Editor's comment The species Aparaonis abyssalis Hartman, 1965 does not seem to belong to the family Paraonidae. It seems to be closer to the family Cirratulidae. [details]
Etymology The specific epithet abyssalis is a Latin adjective meaning 'of or pertaining to an abyss', and refers to the habitat of the species, the abyssal plain between New England and Bermuda, where it was collected at an abyssal depth of 4436 m. [details]
Habitat Abyssal plain, soft sediment at 4436 m. [details]
Status Reuscher (2013: 198) reports that the holotype and only individual of Aparaonis abyssalis Hartman, 1965 is a broken specimen belonging to the family Opheliidae. Thus the genus and species are undetermined, and probably not new, even if the specimen can be reassigned in Opheliidae. [details]
