Amphipoda Gammaridea of the running waters of Turkestan.
Travaux de l'Institut Zoologique de l'Academie des Sciences de l'URSS
The paper contains descriptionsof the Gammaridae of running waters of Turkestan, together with their ecology. The greatest part of the material under description is recorded by the author during .the summers of 1924, and 1925. Standing waters, that is, various Iakes and ponds, are Inhabited everywhere by ,Gaanmaraus pulex, forming in almost every lake its Iocal form or morpha. However,Gafnmarus pulex does not penetrate in running waters, that is, torrents, rapidly runnipg rivers; rivulets, etc., and only in some rivers running very slowly, like Kara-su, a tributary of Issyk-kul,
a form of G. pulex occurs, reminding of G. ocellatus from Issyk-kul. Almost all species of running waters, as weIl as the group of G. pulex, belong to the genus Rivulogammarus Kr., and .only one form represents a distinct genus Sarothroqammarus, n. gen.).
