Description Thalli erect, attached by a holdfast or a basal crust, consisting of axes of indeterminate growth, radially branched, and clothed in some species with branches of determinate growth. Trichoblasts, if present, deciduous. Axes terete or complanate, with 5–12 pericentral cells, corticated from close to the apices with 1–2 layers of cortical cells. Spermatangial branches plate-like, lacking sterile marginal cells; one tetrasporangium per segment. Cystocarps globose. [details]
Nomenclature This name was also introduced by J.Agardh (1863: 792) as a tribus of the "Ordo Rhodomeleae"; although Agardh provided a description, the name is invalid as names of taxa with misplaced rank are invalid (Art. 37.6-8). [details]
