Distribution P. brasiliana seem to be widely distributed in warm temperate, subtropical and Tropical waters. It has e.g. been found in Tunisian Bizerte Lagoon, Spanish Mediterranean, Waters off Brazil, Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of Panama, Gulf of California, waters off Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, China  [details]

Harmful effect Strains from Tunisian Waters have been shown to produce domoic acid (11.4 ng DA per L/ 8.93 fg per cell) [details]

Identification P. brasiliana differs from most Pseudo-nitzschia species because of the almost rectangular valve shape. It differs from the similar P. americana and P. linea by having similar density of interstriae and fibulae.
