Authority De Meijere sent specimens of Pleurechinus to Theodor Mortensen for identification and cites a letter of the latter (although not verbatim) in which the species P. reticulatus was established (de Meijere 1904: p. 202) . All subsequent authors have attributed the species to Mortensen and not de Meijere, although this is a borderline case according to the ICZN regulations. [details]
