Etymology The generic name Paraxionice is composed by the prefix of Greek origin para-, meaning 'close to', and the name of the genus Axionice Malmgren, 1866, referring to its similarity with this genus: ''Paraxionice resembles Axionice Malmgren (1866) and Pista Malmgren (1866) in the structure of the branchiae and the shape of the body'' (Fauchald, 1972: 319).
