Distribution This species was described from the California coast of the Pacific Ocean and later confirmed at a
second California locality. A recent report from the Black Sea (Kharkevych 2013b), in our opinion, requires
confirmation as early development stages and adults of Batillipes species are very similar and a large
intraspecific variability has also been observed in this genus (e.g. caudal structures (McKirdy 1975) and caudal
structures and body size (Kristensen 1978). It has been found in sand (0–60 cm deep) in the intertidal zone. [details]
