The species of Rensselandia, recently reported from the Hyrum Formation of northern Utah, is identified as R. cloudi Frost & Langenheim and is described and illustrated for the first time. Rensselandia cloudi is the basis for Middle Devonian assignment of the lower Hyrum Formation. It also serves as a basis for comparative studies with Rensselandia laevis from the Middle Devonian of western Canada. Rensselandia laevis is made the type species of a new genus, Ectorensselandia, which is distinguished by the presence of cardinal process lobes. Subrensselandia nolani, from central Nevada, is illustrated with serial sections for the first time, providing a comparative basis for the recognition of Rensselandia, Subrensselandia, and Ectorensselandia, all of which occur in western North America.
