Comparison The corals of the family Conophylliidae Alloiteau , 1952 have septa arranged after decreasing pattern, resembling in it the Rhopalophylliidae Melnikova, 2001. In the latter family, however, septal micromorphology is developed in the form of pennulae, and columella is monoaxial, styliform. [details]

Diagnosis Diagnosis emended : Solitary, or phaceloid increasing by division, or colonial, thamnasterioid, increasing by budding with a few lamellar linkages. Calicular surface convex. Trabeculae well delimited, arranged in more or less asymmetric fan. Lateral septal micromorphology in the form of protruding and truncated granules. Synapticulae abundant. Columella papillar or compact. Septal systems arranged after decreasing pattern. Endotheca vesiculous. Wall epithecal. [details]

Remark The above familial diagnosis is based on the analysis of the generic features of Conophyllia d’Orbigny, 1849 performed by Cuif 1975. The family contains a polymorphic genus Conophyllia d’Orbigny 1849: 8. Other content of the family needs revision. [details]
