Parapherusa Stebbing, 1906 is excluded from Melitidae because antenna 1 is shorter than antenna 2, spines and setae are absent on urosomite 2, uropod 3 is equiramous and the telson is entire. Lowry & Myers (2013) placed Parapherusa in the Maeridae, however, this strange genus also has affinities with the Nuuanuidae Lowry & Myers, 2013, and for the present should be referred to as incerta sedis.
