Etymology The specific epithet minima (masculine: minimus) is a Latin adjective meaning 'least' or 'smallest', and refers to the small size of the species, stated to be the smallest of the hitherto known species of the subgenus Phylo, with all the other known species having more than 11 thoracic chaetigers (being 11 in Orbinia (Phylo) minima): ''Die vorliegende Art ist die kleinste der bisher bekannten Arten der Untergattung Phylo; bei allen bekannten Arten ist die Zahl der Borstensegmente im Thorax größer als 11'' (Hartmann-Schröder & Rosenfeldt, 1990: 107).
