Taxonomy This species appears to have been overlooked by most recent overviews of the sponges of the British Isles. Possibly it is close to if not conspecific with T. (T.) ferrolensis, but the status as a tedaniid is contested by Topsent (1900: 111), who alleged it is a junior synonym of Eurypon radiatum and Cristobo & Urgorri, 2001: 569, who merely removed it from the family because Hope (1889) did not expressly describe onychaetes. He does mention thin microspined styles, which could be interpreted as onychaetes. The species remains uncertain and redescription is warranted. [details]
