Taxonomy Erected for type species Filifera verrucosa Lieberkühn, 1859, which is now considered a Ircinia (probably Ircinia strobilina). Schmidt (1862) considered both Ircinia (as Hircinia) and Sarcotragus as 'subgenera' of Filifera Lieberkühn, but subsequently omitted the name Filifera from the species descriptions. Subsequent authors, e.g. Schulze, 1879, ignored Filfera and used Ircinia and Sarcotragus as proper genera. [details]
