Distribution Mediterrranean, precise type-locality unknown [details]
Synonymy Lieberkühn (1859: 522) assigned this combination to Halichondria fasciculata, and this was reassigned to Phorbas. [details]
Validity Pronzato et al. (2004) declared Pallas' species name a nomen nudum, but this appears incorrect: Pallas gave a description and referred to a pre-Linnean record and figure of Plancus (1760: 117, pl. XV fig. E) (this was not discussed by Pronzato et al.). The information provided by Pallas apparently was sufficient for Lamarck, Esper and Schmidt to recognize the species, so authorship should go to Pallas, not to Schmidt. [details]
