Homonymy The species was described by Hentschel from Shark Bay, West Australia, approximate coordinates 25.7977°S 113.4396°E, 7–8 m (holotype ZMB 4487, with an unregistered type in ZMH, with a slide in BMNH). The name is a junior secondary homonym of Suberites inconstans var. digitata Dendy, 1887 (q.v.), as both are currently assigned to the genus Spheciospongia Marshall, 1892. The species was proposed by Van Soest (2024: 75) to be renamed as Spheciospongia hentscheli nom.nov. [details]
