GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chilean vessel AGS "Cabo de Hornos". Year of discovery: 2014. History: Named after the Chilean geographer and Ph.D in seabed geomorphology, Mr. Esteban Morales Gamboa (1942-2022), a pioneer in scientific marine research in Chile. He dedicated his life to the study and dissemination of ocean depths and marine knowledge, through his participation in several scientific cruises and relevant national and foreign publications.
