Authority While Malmgren is credited with authorship, much earlier Quatrefages (1848:50) had used the informal 'Hermelliens' as "Sur la famille des Hermelliens (Hermellea) [sic]", and that there was a family named for the genus Hermella was likely widely agreed amongst taxonomists for some time before Malmgren (1867). [details]

Taxonomy Malmgren used Hermellidae (apparently a modification of Hermellacea Grube), but used Sabellaria as the valid genus, with Hermella as a synonym. [details]
