Editor's comment Suppressed senior homonym. Oken (1807) wrote "Doto (Amphitr. alveolar)" by which he meant Amphitrite alveolar, but there are tenuous links from that Amphitrite combination (which may or may not have been used later in one of the Cuvier Animal Kingdom versions. McIntosh's synonymy for Sabellaria alveolata lists it) to Sabella alveolata Linnaeus, 1767 [= Sabellaria]. The name Doto as in Oken (1807) has been considered a nomen nudum, but the juxtaposition with Amphitrite alveolata is an indication of the intended application. The genus name has been suppressed by ICZN Opinion 697 in favour of Doto Oken, 1815, subsequently widely used for Nudibranch species.
