Editor's comment The apparent combination and author of [sic] "Serpula spirorbis (Southward, 1963)" is a simple error, occurring by mistaken use of the wrong epithet in the text flow of a third author (Zibrowius), and is without significance in taxonomy. Southward (1963) had authored Paraserpula planorbis, with both genus and species clearly unmatching either part of the Linnaean name Serpula spirorbis. A subsequent homonymy to Serpula spirorbis is impossible. The WoRMS entry has been corrected from an earlier presentation as if it was a secondary homonym of a Linnaean name. While the error is recorded here to explain what happened, it is not useful to attribute the original authorship and subsequent "homonym" to Southward, in relation to the error of a later author. However, the intended name of Serpula planorbis (Southward, 1963) is an unreplaced secondary homonym to another Linnaean species, Serpula planorbis Linnaeus, 1758, [details]
