Type locality Adriatic Sea, Croatia, Kvarner Gulf, Rijeka (= Fiume) (geocoordinates not provided estimated with gazetteer to be approximately lat. 45.32º, long. 14.45º).
Ehlers (1874: 225) refers that the species was collected at Quarnero (= Kvarner Gulf), Mediterranean Sea, and that Syllis fiumensis was the most common species of Syllis observed by him during his stay in Fiume (= Rijeka). Ehlers was in Fiume from the beginning of May until the end of August 1862. Ehlers (1874: 234) also states that Syllis fiumensis was present along the whole coast of Fiume, and that the species was often found by him among the green algae brought up by the trawl, from the "Porto di Lazaretto" to Martinsica (= Martinšćica, a small natural harbour near Rijeka). The location of "Porto di Lazaretto" is not clear, and it seems to exist two possibilities. It could refer to the zone of the harbour of Rijeka near the old lazaretto building, which was not being used as a quarantine station since 1812, or it could refer to the natural harbour of Martinšćica, near Rijeka, where was located the lazaretto in functions in 1862, during the stay of Ehlers in Fiume.  [details]
