Taxonomy Nerinides stjosephi [as "Nerinides st. josephi"] was proposed in passing by Jones as a name for Nerine longirostris sensu Saint-Joseph. Quote: "Therefore, I propose a new name, Nerinides st. josephi for the species described by St. Joseph (1894, pp. 74-77) as Nerine longirostris Quatrefages. Further, I point out that this species is, ipso facto, the type species of the genus Nerinides, by Mesnil's original designation (Mesnil, 1896, p.152)." The practical status of this proposal is uncertain as, without re-examination of the original European specimens, it is not known if and how Saint-Joseph's material differed from Quatrefages'.
