Etymology aurantium, (neuter) means orange as in the citrus fruit and the colour. The adjective 'aurantiaca' used by Müller has been given a feminine suffix here to agree with his Theodisca spelling of masculine Theodiscus. There appears to be no connection to Santa Catharina, after whom the type locality island is named, but this is a possibility. [details]
