Taxonomy Langeneck et al (2020: 261) reassessed Mediterranean records of Lumbrineris acutifrons. They wrote: "Lumbrineris acutifrons is a poorly known species; it is not treated in the revision of the genus Lumbrineris Blainville, 1828 by Carrera-Parra (2006), and the original description (McIntosh, 1903) suggests that this species should possibly be assigned either to Abyssoninoe Orensanz, 1990 or to Cenogenus Chamberlin, 1919. However, as the type locality is unknown (presumably in the deep North-eastern Atlantic Ocean, since the holotype was collected in the 1870 Porcupine Expedition) and the description is not very detailed, the actual identity of L. acutifrons is currently uncertain.
