Additional information The species was first cited in the Mediterranean Sea by Somaschini & Gravina (1993) as Questa caudicirra Hartman, 1966. Giere & Erséus (1998) determined later that this material was in fact a new species, describing it as Questa mediterranea Giere & Erséus, 1998. [details]

Distribution Known from the islands of Ponza and Zannone, at the Pontine Islands Archipelago (Tyrrhenian coast of Italy). [details]
Editor's comment The geographic coordinates of the type locality provided in the original description (Giere & Erséus, 1998) seem to be erroneous. They were corrected from 40.50ºN, 12.55ºE to 40º50'N, 12º55'E in order to plot the type locality on the above map. [details]
Etymology The specific epithet refers to the first finding of questid specimens in the Mediterranean Sea. [details]
Habitat In coarse sand and in seagrass beds (Posidonia oceanica), in the fine sand rich in debris trapped among rhizomes, 5-20 m deep. [details]
Type locality Isola di Ponza, Cala Feola, Tyrrhenian Sea, west coast of Italy (marine). [details]
Type material Holotype ZMH P-23395 and paratypes ZMH P-23410 and P-23411 whole-mounted in Canada balsam after Paracarmine staining. Paratype ZMH P-23433 mounted on stub for SEM. [details]
