Etymology The specific epithet spondylana is composed by the name of the genus of the thorhy oyster on which the species was found, Spondylus Linnaeus, 1758, followed by the Latin suffix -ana (masculine. -anus), meaning 'of' or 'pertaining to', referring to the connection between the two taxa. [details]
Habitat In an irregular, blue-black, nacreous ''blister'' formed on the inner surface of the shell of a live thorny oyster Spondylus sp., colledted below tide-mark, at a depth of 2 to 3 m. [details]
Reproduction A long chain of spherical, orange, egg-sacs was found attached alongside the spionid to the wall of its canal in the shell of the host. [details]
