Distribution New Zealand (Snares Islands); Australia (New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia).  [details]

Editor's comment This species was described from a remote subantarctic island south of New Zealand. San Martin & Hutchings (2006) redescribed the genus and the species based on specimens of an Australian species. They do not include the Snares type specimens in their material examined listing and are presumed not to have examined them. Given the extreme difference in morphologies as described in print by the respective authors, and latitudinal difference in location, the match seems unusual, although San Martin & Hutchings believed the discrepancy relates simply to the loss of appendages in Knox & Cameron's original material, as the Australian species had dehiscent appendages. Subsequently the species has been reported from Japan. [details]
