Etymology The specific epithet longicirrata refers to the conspicuously long dorsal cirri, when comparing with the other species previously described in the genus, Alluaudella madagascariensis Gravier, 1905. [details]

Holotype Holotype NHML 1971.43 was re-examined by Aguado & San Martín (2008). [details]
Synonymy San Martín & Hutchings (2006) examined the holotype of Alluaudella longicirrata Mohammad, 1973, stating that it was clearly a species of Odontosyllis, without giving further information on possible synonymies. Later Aguado & San Martín (2008) also revised the type material of A. longicirrata (misspelled as A. longocirrata), and discussed its synonymy with Odontosyllis freycinetensis Augener, 1913, citing San Martín & Hutchings (2006) as the source of the synonymy. However in this publication this synonymy is not established nor discussed, for which reason the synonymy between the two species is here considered as having been established by Aguado & San Martín (2008).
