Etymology Not stated. The name if referring to parapodial structure seems a contradiction as Polynaineris is distinguished by having NO postsetal papillae, whereas Naineris sensu stricto, may have up to three. [details]

Diagnosis Somewhat indistinctly separated from the nominal subgenus, but thoracic neuropodia WITHOUT postsetal
papilla in middle of lobe, as against with single postsetal papilla in middle of lobe, with or without 1-2 additional papillae in lower part. [details]

Etymology Not stated. The name if referring to parapodial structure seems a contradiction as Polynaineris is distinguished by having NO postsetal papillae, whereas Naineris sensu stricto, may have up to three. [details]

Synonymy Pettibone (1957: 160) divided Naineris into the nominal subgenus and her new Polynaineris. It was to contain most Naineris, apart from the Naineris type species, Nais quadricuspida Fabricius, 1780. It appears only De Silva (1965) further used the subgenus, but no formal synonymy could be found in literature until Blake (2017) [details]
