Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Hartmann-Schröder (1962: 157): "Wie Terebella; aber die Borsten sind einfach und einheitlich glatt gesäumt; in den Doppelreihen sind die Haken in einem Kreis angeordnet, wobei sie sich wie bei Lanice z.B. den Rücken zukehren; die Kiemen beginnen am 3. Segment; die Ventralschilder sind undeutlich." [details]
Etymology Not explicitly stated in the original description. The name of the genus is formed by the agglutination of the generic names Terebella Linnaeus, 1767 and Lanice Malmgren, 1866, and refers presumably to the fact that the new genus was erected for a species similar to Terebella but with the uncini in the double rows standing back to back, as in Lanice. Synonymy From Banse (1980: 21): "Terebellanice [...] was erroneously based on a species of Thelepus Leuckart (G. Hartmann-Schröder, Zool. Museum, University of Hamburg, in litt.). The gills thus are found on segments 2-4 [...]." [details]
