Diagnosis "Der Kopflappen erhebt sich auf der Unterseite über die Augen. Ruder mit einem einfachen cirrenförmigen Anhang. Borsten einfach." (Apstein, 1891: 133). [details]
Etymology The etymology is not clear, but the name Callizonella seems to be composed by the postposition of the Latin suffix -ella, feminine form of -ellus and normally added to a noun to form a diminuitive of that noun, to the name of the genus Callizona Greeff, 1876, and perhaps it was used to denote a size relation between the two genera.
