Spelling Chamberlin (1919) referred S. cariboum to his new Semiodera genus (feminine) as the type species, but unfortunately did not use the combination. Thus the species name spelling he would have used is unknown. Hartman (1959 Catalogue, 1961: 122 in text flow) corrected the spelling to a feminine-like 'cariboa' as if 'cariboum' was an adjective. Salazar-Vallejo (2012) did not comment on this but regarded 'cariboum' as a noun. He changed it to a genitive noun construction of 'caribea'. However, if a noun, then original 'incorrect' noun latinizations cannot be changed. As the derivation of 'cariboum' is uncertain (see note under original name Siphonostoma cariboum) it can be treated as an unchanging combination of letters. [details]
