<i>Octobranchus longipes</i> sp.n. (Trichobranchidae: Polychaeta) da costa sudeste do Brasil
Octobranchus longipes sp. n., the first record of the genus Octobranchus in South America atlantic waters, is described from sand and mud-sand substrates (32-53 m) off the southeastern Brazilian coast. Octobranchus longipes sp. n. differs from congeneric species in having: a) elongated thoracic notopodia; b) a well developed anterior ventral lobe (buccal or first segment); c) lateral lappets on segments 2-6, forming well developed collars on segments 3 and 4; d) two types of limbate thoracic notosetae; e) two types of branchiae, cirriform and basally swollen; f) a small number (5-6) of uncini in anterior thoracic neuropodia.
