Etymology The specific epithet collata is a Latin participle meaning 'brought together' or 'having been brought together', and refers to the shape of the anterior region of the body: "The specific name has reference to the feeble development of the first ten pairs of parapodia, giving the animal the appearance of having a definite neck" (Treadwell, 1928: 462).
