Etymology The specific epithet parapacifica is composed by the specific epithet of the species Pista pacifica Berkeley & Berkely, 1942, preceded by the Greek prefix para-, meaning 'beside' or 'next to', and refers to the similarities between the two species: ''Die größte Ähnlichkeit besitzt P. parapacifica n.sp. mit P. pacifica Berkeley & Berkeley, besonders in der Form der vorderen Thorax-Haken'' (Hartmann-Schröder, 1965: 263).
