Etymology The specific epithet gymnocephala is composed by the ancient Greek prefix gymno-, meaning 'naked', and the new Latin word from the ancient Greek cephala, meaning 'head', and refers probably to the fact that the species was described has having up to half of the prostomium covered by a transparent occipital flap, with all the antennae inserted in the anterior edge of the prostomium, giving the appearance of a bare prostomium. However Verdes et al. (2011) redescribed the species has having an "occipital flap distinct, small, covering [the] posterior margin of prostomium". [details]
