Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet aberrans is the participle of the Latin verb aberro, and means 'wandering', 'straying', or 'deviating from'. Presumably it makes reference to the aberrant morphology and "uncertain systematic position of this form" (Monro, 1936: 195). The taxon was considered as incertae sedis and regarded as "an aberrant Hesionid" by Monro (op. cit.). [details]
