Etymology Not stated, but an instance of the Latin adjective similis ‘similar to’. Later in the same work Treadwell (1929: 12) considered his H. californicus (now H. crucigera) as similar to his E. similis, which isn’t compared to any taxon, so a logical application of the names would have been in reverse!
